LET US PRAY ….. June 6th
And Jeroboam said in his heart, “Now the kingdom may return to the house of David: If these people go up to offer sacrifices in the house of the Lord at Jerusalem, then the heart of this people will turn back to their lord, Rehoboam king of Judah, and they will kill me and go back to Rehoboam king of Judah.” Therefore the king asked advice, made two calves of gold, and said to the people, “It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem. Here are your gods, O Israel, which brought you up from the land of Egypt!”
1 Kings 12:26-28
THE TRUTH OF THE MATTER
The Lord God is the only One that knows the intents of the heart of all men. Scripture reveals to us the reason for Jeroboam’s actions. However, Jeroboam does not tell the people the truth of the matter, rather, he pretends to care for their wellbeing. He lies that he is concerned about the trouble of travelling far to worship, and thus has provided an easier option for the people to worship nearby. The truth of the matter is that he is intent on keeping the people in subjection to him, he does not want them to ‘turn back to their lord, Rehoboam king of Judah’. For his selfish purposes, Jeroboam causes the people to worship the idols he has set up. How could he, for his own purposes, that he may have his own way, say to the people, ‘Here are your gods, O Israel, which brought you up from the land of Egypt!’
The people listen to him and indeed begin to worship in error. Singlehandedly, this man causes the people to sin against God. As the Bible states, indeed, one sinner destroys much good. A people, who worshipped God in the prescribed fashion in the appointed place have been diverted into sin. Just so that one man can have his way. I pray we will not fall prey to such an evil plot, I pray that we will be well versed in the word of God and His will that we will not be swayed by such folly in Jesus name, amen. We ought to check what we are being told and measure it up agains the word of God to ensure it is acceptable to Him. Do not be caught in such an evil net. For this is a net that indeed caught many people in it. The consequences of sin come personally, and it does not matter who led a person to sin, the soul that sins shall die.
“And he set up one in Bethel, and the other he put in Dan. Now this thing became a sin for the people went to worship before the one as far as Dan. He made shrines on the high places, and made priests from every class of people, who were not the sons of Levi.Jeroboam ordained a feast on the fifteenth day of the eight month, like the feast that was in Judah, and offered sacrifices on the altar. So he did at Bethel, sacrificing to the calves that he had made.” 1 Kings 12:29-32a
So, ask the Lord about the truth of the matter. Do not be led by the nose by another. Seek the face of the Lord and His direction. Do not join a multitude to sin. Do not imagine because many people are doing something, that means it is right or acceptable to God. Check with the Lord and Saviour, He is the Master, He will lead you into all truth, He will direct your path if you go to Him. Take a second look at the things you are doing already. Re-evaluate the position you have taken on many matters because of what you were told by one person or another. Have you been deceived? Are you in error to serve the purposes of another? Examine yourself. Examine the arguments. Seek the will of God. Make amends as necessary.
“Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. I have sworn and confirmed that I will keep Your righteous judgments.” Psalm119:105-106
“For you shall worship no other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God” Exodus 34:14
“But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived. But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, and from childhood you have known the Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.” 2 Timothy 3:13-15
LET US PRAY
Thank You Lord for Your Word to guide me and lead me along the path of righteousness. Keep and preserve me O Lord from evil men that seek to deceive me. Preserve me for Your heavenly kingdom, do not let my foot slip by Your grace in Jesus name, amen.
O Lord, show me Your way, reveal all error to me that I may not partake in offending You. Open my eyes Lord to Your truth, in Jesus name, amen.
